Maldivian tuna introduced to South Africa’s Woolworths stores

Maldivian tuna has been introduced at the retail stores of Woolworths Holdings Limited in South Africa.

The tuna was introduced as part of the ongoing visit to South Africa by the Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee.

Talking to Sun Media from South Africa, Dr. Shainee said that the products would be introduced sometime tonight. The Minister said that the discussion with Woolworths highlighted that the tuna is caught with no danger to the environment and focused on getting a good price for the product.

Woolworths Holdings Limited is a South African chain of retail stores. It is the most popular and one of the largest in the country.

Dr. Shainee said that he met with the South African Minister for Fisheries on his visit. The two discussed on getting a good price for the Maldivian tuna at the international market according to the minister and working with South Africa to discuss getting a good price with regional organizations.

Minister Dr. Shainee said that the purpose of his visit is to ensure that Maldivian tuna is caught ecofriendly and to assure the product is sold at a good price and find a good market.

The biggest challenge facing the Maldivian fisheries industry is not getting a sufficient price for the products. The government has put forth numerous efforts to find a solution to the problem. And so, the government has been exploring different international markets to sell the products.
