State Trading Organization and Ooredoo Maldives has signed Memorandum of Understandings with Ministry Gender and Family to assist the State-run children’s shelter – Fiyavathi – which includes sponsoring salaries of two teachers and two care workers for the facility for a one-year period.
The MoUs were signed in a function held this Wednesday at Ministry of Gender and Family by State Minister of Gender and Family, Dr. Athaulla Ahmed Rasheed, Head of Sales of Ooredoo Maldives, Hussain Niyaz, and General Manager of STO, Muslif Maseeh.
Neither the ministry nor any of the two companies spoke to press after signing the agreement.
But Ministry of Gender and Family issued a press release which said that the number of children taken into State custody had increased in the past few years, and that the two companies will be assisting the State provide them with necessary facilities and open equal opportunities.
The statement read that STO and Ooredoo Maldives will sponsor two teachers and two care workers for Fiyavathi as part of the agreement.
Ministry of Gender and Family said that children taken under State care had gone through different forms of abuse and neglect, and that they required assistance in different areas in addition to being provided their basic needs.
Ministry of Gender and Family said that STO and Ooredoo Maldives were two companies which provided direct assistance to improve the quality of services provided by the ministry in Fiyavathi, and thanked them for the assistance.
The ministry reports it will be increasing partnership with both State and private parties to provide more opportunities to children under State custody to improve their quality of life.
