No threat of tidal waves next 3 days

Maldives Meteorological Service reports it expects Maldivian islands to be clear of tidal waves the next three days.

Director of Met Office, Ahmed Rasheed reported to “Sun” this Tuesday that the agency forecasted scattered showers and a few thunderstorms in southern and central atolls, and generally fine weather in the north over the next 24 hours.

Ahmed Rasheed said it was now Iruvai (north-east) monsoon in the country, and Met Office forecasted islands were clear of threat of tidal swellings for the next three days.

Tidal swellings resulted in flooding in islands located in northern and central atolls last week.

Sh. Feevah was one of the worst-hit islands with its farmland damaged due to flooding.

Met Office epects surface winds to vary between north-west and northerly at 5 to 13 miles per hour in central atolls and 3 to 10 miles per hour elsewhere in the next 24 hours.

Seas are expected to be slight throughout the country.
