Maldives Meteorological Service says it expects tidal swellings will cease to affecting northern atolls and instead hit the central atolls starting from this Thursday.
Assistant Meteorologist of the Met Office, Abdulla Hafeez reported that it forecasts the central atolls (K. Atoll through Th. Atoll) to be hit by tidal swellings over the next 48 hours.
“It’s unlikely the north will face tidal swellings anymore. It looks like tidal swellings will affect the central Maldives,” said Hafeez.
Flooding from tidal swellings in expected to be worse during high tide – which will hit the central atolls at 3:35 am and 3:35 pm.
Hafeez said the tidal swelling in expected to be worse at 3:35 am.
The low-lying islands of Maldives is affected by flooding due to tidal swellings during this time every year.
Sh. Feevah was one of the worst affected islands this year, with the water causing extensive damage to the farmland.
