Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has decided to collect waste for disposal from two more zones of residential houses in Malé City and opened for registrations.
Since the launching of the service, the service has been in zone one alone. But with more vehicles brought in for the service, registrations have been opened for zones 2 and 3. WAMCO would be collecting waste for disposal from the registered houses in the new zones starting from1 March 2017.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Environment Ministry this afternoon, the Managing Director of WAMCO, Ibrahim Fuad said that while registrations have been opened for three zones in the city, company aims provide the service city wide by June.
The service is only available for customers who register. To apply for the service, an application form has to be filled out from the WAMCO website (http://wamco.com.mv/resources/forms/) and submitted at the WAMCO Office, located on the third floor of Maafannu Jambugadhoshuge, or via email at collection@wamco.com.mv.
WAMCO provides the waste disposal service in the Capital by dividing the city into 13 zones. And would be opening registration to two zones every month.
Managing Director of WAMCO said that under a new legislation to that would be introduced soon, carrying waste for disposal on motorcycles and bicycles would be illegal. The legislation is intended to prevent garbage from being dropped on the roads while being transported for disposal.
