Zaidul Ameen’s remand extended for third time

Criminal Court has granted an extension to the remand period of Male’ City Councilor for Central Henveiru constituency, Zaidul Ameen – under arrest for suspected involvement in blackmail.

Criminal Court this Sunday granted a 10-day extension to Zaidul Ameen’s remand – during which time he will be kept in an accommodation assigned by Ministry of Home Affairs.

He is currently under house arrest.

Zaidul was arrested by the police on January 13.

He is allied with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and is a member of Maumoon’s faction in ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.

He was expelled from PPM Council over a disciplinary issue.
