National bank, Bank of Maldives celebrated its 200th cash agent in the atolls in K. Dhiffushi on Friday.
Cash agents are assigned from retail business owners in islands which don’t have a branch of the bank, or an ATM.
The retailor from Dhiffushi who became the bank’s 200th cash retailor was gifted with a token during the function held to celebrate the milestone.
Speaking at the function, Deputy CEO of BML, Aishath Noordeen said “I am really pleased to be here in Dhiffushi today to welcome the 200th retailer to our cash agent network. This is an important service as cash agents allow local communities to bank conveniently without going through the hassle or expense of traveling to the nearest island with a branch.”
BML customers can use their debit cards to withdraw cash through POS machines installed by cash agents in their business outlets.
The bank achieved its goal of providing basic banking across the country by assigning cash agents in all inhabited islands which do not have a branch of the bank or an ATM.
BML has a nationwide network of 31 branches across all 20 atolls, 78 ATMs, 4,000 Point of Sale merchants, 200 cash agents, 20 Self Service Banking Centres and 5 Dhoni Banking Units, as well as a full suite of Digital and Online Banking Services.
