It is a heartbreaking sight to see sickly patients being kept on the floor of the MTCC ferry terminal as they await transfer from Hulhumale’ Hospital to a hospital in Male’ City.
"They are just kept there. My heart breaks when I see it. There must be some other way, at this age and time,” said a woman who lives in Hulhumale’.
Sickly patients being transferred from Hulhumale’ Hospital to Male’ City are kept on a stretcher on the ground where people walk before they are boarded to the ferry after the vehicles and other passengers.
Manager of MTCC Hulhumale’ ferry operations, Mohamed Nazim reported to “Sun” that the general practice was to keep patients in the ambulance before they are taken onboard ferries.
But that sea ambulances were usually used to transport patients.
There is no set protocol for transporting patients from Hulhumale’ to Male’ City on MTCC ferries.
