The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Mangala Samaraweera paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this afternoon, at the President’s Office.
President Yameen welcomed the Minister to the country and conveyed his greetings and good wishes to the President of Sri Lanka.
During the call, the President highlighted the excellent relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and stated that the Maldives attaches high importance to Sri Lanka, as it is one of the closest partners of the Maldives. Furthermore, the President also noted that there is high potential for greater cooperation in the fields of health and education.
Minister Samaraweera conveyed his gratitude for the collaborative environment the Maldives has always offered and commended the leadership of the President for the impressive economic development of the Maldives.
At the meeting, the President was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Ms. Zahiya Zareer and the Minister of State at the President’s Office, Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
The Minister was accompanied at the call by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, Major General (Rtd) A.B. Thoradeniya and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ranjith Uyangoda.
