Court rules in favor of attorney Thalib

Criminal Court has ruled that attorney-at-law, Ahmed Thalib is not guilty of deliberately attempting to create a bogus document for his client.

It was alleged that Thalib asked the doctor at Dhoonidhoo Prison to produce a bogus medical certificate for one of his clients incarcerated at the prison on November 7, 2015.

Criminal Court ruled this Thursday that Thalib denies the charge, and that evidence provided by the State prosecution to court was insufficient to prove his guilt.

Speaking to “Sun” after Criminal Court ruled in favor of him, Thalib said he had hoped to receive justice through the judiciary system, which had now come to reality.

Thalib was suspended by Supreme Court in November, 2015 while he had been working as legal counsel for former Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor.

Thalib had resigned as his attorney, shortly afterwards.

Supreme Court overturned his suspension in February, 2016.
