Health Ministry has said that the concrete work at the 25-floor building at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) would be complete by September 2017.
Talking to the press after a visit to the new building at the hospital, Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that while the sheets of six floors have now been completed, the full concrete work of the building would be complete by September.
While the new building is expected to resolve the spacing issue at the hospital, new services such as the treatment of sports injuries are set to begin upon the completion of the building.
Minister Nazim said that the building would be complete and be opened with new services in the middle of next year.
The project worth USD 140 million (MVR 2.1 billion) not expensive compared to the speed and quality of the construction according to the Ministry.
As the project is under way with 200 on site employees, the number is expected to rise with the inclusion of technical personnel.
Upon completion, it would become a modern specialist hospital with 500 beds. With six floors dedicated to national diagnosis facilities, all consultations and testing would be moved to the new building.
It is also to be equipped with a Childcare Center and a social rehabilitation suite and the hospital has previously said that five floors would be dedicated for private accommodation for customers.
