Inmate dies in hospital

An inmate at Hulhumale’ Detention Center passed away while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital this Tuesday.

Maldives Correctional Service identified the man as Hassan Saeed, 51, from Snow White in Feydhoo, Addu City.

The inmate was taken to Hulhumale’ Hospital complaining of chest pain in the late hours of Monday night.

He later developed breathing difficulty and was hooked to a ventilator. He was transported to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after his condition worsened. And died at 2:30 pm this

Tuesday while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of IGMH.

Correctional Service reports the inmate had been serving a 15-year prison sentence since January 19, 2016.

He was found guilty of child abuse.
