Maldivian Democratic Party lawmaker, Komandoo MP Ahmed Nashid (ADK Nashid) was seen in attendance to hear President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s address to the People’s
Majlis despite the boycott by MDP’s Parliamentary Group.
President Yameen made his address to People’s Majlis during the first sitting of the first session of People’s Majlis held this Monday morning at Dharubaaruge.
Main opposition party, MDP’s Parliamentary Group had voted to boycott the sitting saying they did not wish to hear lies by President Yameen to cover up his unconstitutional actions.
However, ADK Nashid was seen in attendance to hear President Yameen’s address on Monday morning.
He was also noticeably wearing a black tie instead of the yellow ties worn by MDP politicians during events and gatherings.
MDP’s spokesperson, North Mafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy commented that none of its lawmakers would have attended the function as a representative of MDP’s Parliamentary Group given that the boycott was discussed and voted on.
Others noticeably present during the presidential address include Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon and Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim – who, though are members of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives, have aligned themselves with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom against President Yameen.
