A Maldivian man has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of MVR 100,000 after he was found guilty of smuggling narcotics into Gn. Fuvahmulah City.
Mohamed Manik from Ma. Clover in Male’ City smuggled the narcotics on a flight from Velana International Airport to Fuvahmulah Airport on a Maldivian flight on January 25, 2016.
Mohamed Manik was arrested by police while he sat waiting in a chair at the arrivals terminal at the airport.
Police were doing a body check on him when a plastic package containing the narcotics fell from under the boxers he was wearing.
Criminal Court noted in its ruling that Mohamed Manik confessed his guilt during the trial, and that the narcotics found on him tested positive for heroin, and weighed 3,239.74 grams.
He has been ordered to pay the fine amount to court within one month.
