Cargo boat en route to Felidhoo wrecks on Vaadhoo reef

75-foot cargo boat “Loakuri” traveling from Male’ City to V. Felidhoo has wrecked on K. Vaadhoo reef.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the incident was reported to the authority at 2:03 am, this Thursday.

MNDF said there were 12 people – including the crew – onboard “Loakuri” when the incident took place. And that everyone, except the crewmembers were brought to Male’ City at 5:50 am.

11 Bangladeshi nationals and one Maldivian was onboard “Loakuri” when it wrecked on Vaadhoo reef.

MNDF reports all are in good health and sustained no injuries.

MNDF said the boat was taking in water from the hole at the bottom of the boat created due to the crash.

The authority, and owner of the boat are working on hauling it off the reef.
