EC: Confident all candidates will re-apply

Elections Commission has commented it was confident all candidates who previously submitted their applications for the Local Council Election will re-apply.

The comment comes after opposition political party, Adhaalath Party announced last Monday night that it will be boycotting the election – which has been postponed from January 14 to April 8.

Member of EC, Ahmed Akram responded to the discontent over its decision to nullify previously submitted applications and re-open application by commenting that a delay in election meant possible changes to candidates’ standpoint.

“Changes to the situation with changes to election dates will result in changes to the standpoint,” said Akram.

He said that EC was confident as many politicians as possible will participate in the election.

AP accused EC of deliberate negligence in failing to deliver the Local Council Election to the people on the date instructed by the Constitution and stealing the election from the people.

It said that partaking in the election would “stamp the seal of validity in an unjustly stolen election”.
