MDFA delays Dhivehi labelling of baby foods

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has said that they have delayed the implementation of Dhivehi labels on baby foods.

The MFDA has previously said that under the regulation for import, production and trade of baby food used as replacement for breastfeeding, the import of unregistered products without Dhivehi labels is illegal from16 January 2017.

But a later statement said that the implementation has been delayed to find a solution since Dhivehi labeling of products are difficult for some importers and if make an amendment to the law if required.

MFDA said that if the registration documents aside from the Dhivehi Label has been submitted and if the original label of the product is to the regulations, it would be registered.

Even if the Dhivehi labelling has been delayed pending a decision, the MFDA said that 16 January 2017 is still the last date for unregistered baby foods.
