Education: Books and Teachers would be set when the Academic Year begins

Ministry of Education has said that the issues with the books and teachers would be settled by the time the Academic Year begins.

The lack of teachers and books for the students is a problem that occurs every year along with complaints from the parents due to the issue.

While the new Academic Year is about eight days away, the State Minister at the Education Ministry, Ahmed Shafeeu told Sun Media that the selection of local teachers and teachers from abroad are underway and it would be complete by the beginning of the Academic Year.

Some teachers and school principals have raised concerns saying that there would be fewer teachers in schools due to the policy of teacher selection for 2017.

State Minister Shafeeu said that there would be enough teachers in the schools under the teacher’s requirements.

Starting next year, Grade 7 has been allocated as a secondary school grade and the State Minister said that the preparations for the changes have been made.

Shafeeu said that the students are receiving the books and the newly printed books have been distributed to the schools and would be available in the atolls before the schools open.

The books for Quran and Islamic Studies for the Grades 1, 2 and 3 have been renewed with some changes.

The State Minister said that the books for the secondary grades would be issued when the schools opens and they are to be returned at the end of the school year.

Schools are making the final preparations for the new Academic Year.
