Housing Ministry has said that the deck of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge would be built in China and imported and installed in portions.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have visited the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge site this evening where they were briefed on the progress of the project.
The contractor of the project CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company is working to complete the bridge before 30 September 2018. The company however said that the project would be completed two months early.
The steel beams for the main bridge has now been completed. Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said today that the main platforms and pile caps would be completed by next July.
Engineer at the Housing Ministry, Aishath Bariyya Mohamed said that the work is progressing with challenges due to the lack of space at the worksites and the airport being near the area.
And so to speed the project and ensure the quality, the bridge deck would be built in China and be brought to the Maldives.
Bridge deck is the top surface of the bridge would be used by vehicles and other commuters. Tarmac or paving would be used on top the concrete and steel deck.
She also said that tarmac would be installed on Boduthakurufaanu Magu upto to STELCO as part of the bridge project along with a part of Moonlight Hingun to join the bridge as approaching roads.
