Forensic test reports of immigration laptops handed over to ACC

The Maldives Police Services has said that reports of forensic investigations conducted on laptops allegedly given to staff of the Department of Immigration and Emigration by Nexbiz have been handed over to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz tweeted tonight that the reports have been submitted to ACC.

The laptops were taken from staff of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, after the ACC filed a court case saying that Immigration awarded a contract to Nexbiz, a Malaysian company, to install a border control system in the Maldives in a manner that created suspicion of corruption. ACC accused that the laptops were supplied to the staff of Immigration by Nexbiz.

Hassan Luthufy, President of ACC, confirmed that the laptops were handed over to ACC too, after the completion of forensic investigations.

“The laptops were given to the police in order to conduct some forensic investigations on them. The work has been completed, and the laptops were handed over to ACC last Thursday”, said Hassan. However, he said that he had no knowledge of the reports being submitted to ACC.

The laptops were seized by ACC at midnight, on the 24th of last May, after saying that the whole thing was conducted in a manner that lead to suspicion of corruption.

According to the agreement made between ACC and Immigration on installation of a border control system in the Maldives, any person entering or leaving the Maldives would be charged 22 dollars for a period of 22 years. Also, any visa made or renewed would be charged 15 dollars.
