SAARC nations to unite in tourism promotion

Member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) have begun discussion on jointly promoting tourism in the region. The discussions are being held in New Delhi, the capital of India.

The discussion forum has been designated the “SAARC Tour Operators’ Conclave”, and has been initiated by the Indian Ministry of Tourism. The forum will continue for one week. The Maldives is also a participant.

Maleeh Jamaal, Minister of State for Tourism, told today that three tour operators, and an official from the Ministry, would represent the Maldives in the conclave. He also said that major tour operators from SAARC countries and policy-level officials also participate in the forum.

Maleeh said that tour operators and governments would discuss about how cooperation would be achieved in jointly promoting tourism in South Asia. He also said that the discussions would find new ways in which the whole region would achieve development in the tourism sector.
