Mohammad “Kaanal” Nasheed, Member of Parliament for Nolhivaram Constituency, has belied reports which claim that he would soon ditch the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and join another.
In a Press Release published today, Nasheed said that the reports currently circulating in the media that he had decided to leave MDP were “false rumors without a shred of truth”. He also said that he was not usually seen at MDP activities because of personal business, and that there was no “difference of opinion” between him and MDP leadership.
“Lately, some contesting individuals have directed many such attacks against me, in order to weaken my personality. Such false talk cannot, God willing, defeat my resolve and resilience”, said Nasheed’s Statement.
Nasheed said that changing partisan adherence every time one has a different opinion was not the solution. His Statement also said that the rumor about him changing party was reported in the some media outlets without a word from him.
Reports from various quarters have repeatedly claimed that Nasheed would be the next addition to a series of MDP senior leaders and parliamentarians who leave the party following 7th February. Nasheed has not been seen recently in the continuous political activities of MDP either.
