Traffic lights shut off temporarily

Traffic lights in Male’ City have been shut off temporarily.

Chairman of Transport Authority, Abdul Rasheed Nafiz reported to “Sun” this Thursday that the authority made the decision to shut off the traffic lights temporarily upon the request of Maldives Police Service, in light of the changes to traffic in Male’ City.

“We have not made the decision not to use traffic lights. It has been halted for now. Traffic lights will be used again in the foreseeable future.

Nafiz said that additional traffic lights will be installed, and old traffic lights replaced by new once the streets of Male’ City are re-planned after renovation.

He said that the level of wear and tear of existing traffic lights made it difficult to repair them.
