Ooredoo provides 4G coverage to 55 percent of population

Telecom company Ooredoo reports it has so far provided 4G coverage to 55 percent of the Maldivian population, in its bid to expand its 4G network across the entire country.

During a press conference held at Ooredoo Maldives headquarters last Tuesday, Head of Sales, Hussain Niyaz said the 4G service was being provided to areas as its nation-wide submarine cable is installed.

“To this day, we have provided 4G services to 40 more islands, outside of the Male’ region,” said Niyaz.

He said that the islands include tourist resorts.

Ooredoo said it has now provided 4G coverage to 55 percent of the Maldivian population.

“So the peoples living in these regions will have access to 4G high-speed internet,” noted Niyaz.

Ooredoo introduced two postpaid packages with 4G services on Tuesday.

It’s also running a promotion in which customers who upgrade Ooredoo 4G network by end of December receive free 2 GBs of data.

The company says installation of its 1,200 kilometer submarine cable will be complete by January 15, providing 4G Plus coverage to the whole country.
