High Court has requested the Police to investigate the allegations made against the High Court Chief Judge Ahmed Shareef, of having met with officials of Nexbiz while Nexbiz’s Border Control System project case is in progress at the court.
High Court issued a statement today, on the cases filed to Judicial Service Commission (JSC) by seven High Court Judges, and the allegations made against the Chief Judge in a letter sent to ACC.
“We have requested Maldives Police Service to conduct a complete investigation of the allegations made in the letter sent to ACC that a Judge of this court met with a litigant,” High Court said in their statement.
High Court also urged for a speedy investigation of the case sent to JSC involving seven of its Judges, but also responded to the allegations made against its Judges.
High Court said that the cases sent by the seven Judges to JSC shows that they were sent following doubts on the court mandate.
“There is no indication that it was a violation of the law, and a decision on this case will be made by JSC. It cannot be justified to comment on the issue before JSC completes its investigation. It is of even more concern that the letter sent by the Judges to JSC was leaked,” the statement reads.
Referring to the meeting by High Court Judge with Nexbiz, High Court said that this allegation is not based on any facts. It said that ACC investigating this allegation against a Judge presiding over a case filed by ACC would be like ACC ‘investigating its own complaint’.
High Court also noted that information in the letter sent to ACC was misleading, and clarified that no High Court Judge can influence cases filed to court; rather, every case is presided over by a bench of three Judges.
