Man, woman sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking

Criminal Court has sentenced a man and a woman to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of trafficking narcotics into Maldives via a SriLankan flight.

Life imprisonment was served to:

1. Khadheeja Ahmed, Motion, Gn. Fuvahmulah

2. Abdul Latheef, Dhekula Araa Ge, Hithadhoo, Addu City

Narcotics was found inside luggage of Khadheeja and Abdul Latheef when they arrived on a SriLankan flight from Colombo to Male’ in May, 2013.

The narcotics - dimorphin – was found packed inside two cans in the luggage.

Both Khadheeja and Abdul Latheef were found guilty of drug trafficking based on evidence and witness testimony, and sentenced to life imprisonment by Criminal Court last Sunday, December 18.

They have also been fined MVR 100,000 each, which they are required to pay to court within a month’s time.
