Former Head of Marine Police Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Adnan Anees was summoned to Police office last night for questioning in relation to the report on the transfer of power published by two cabinet members of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government.
Police Sub-Inspector Hassan Haneef said today that Adnan was summoned to Police at 21:30 last night for inquiries in relation to a matter currently under investigation.
He did not provide any further details.
According to Adnan’s lawyer Abdullah Haseen, Adnan was asked whether he provided any information to the aforementioned report, and whether he had met with former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam before the report was published.
Haseen said that Adnan had exercised his right to remain silent instead of replying to the questions posed by the Police.
He added that the allegations made against Adnan that he had revealed information received as a result of his job, are baseless and false.
Police said that with the change of government on 7 February, Adnan had been transferred to the post of Projects Officer.
Former Head of Police Intelligence Mohamed Hameed had also been questioned and suspended from work, for providing information to the report ‘Coup by Police and Military’ published by Aslam and former National Security Advisor Ameen Faisal.
