Boat engine explodes; flywheel tears open man’s stomach

The outboard engine of a dinghy traveling from Sh. Feevah to Sh. Foakaidhoo exploded on Saturday, injuring a man whose stomach was torn open after being hit with a fly-away flywheel.

Abdulla Fazeel, 32, from Orchidmaa Ge in Feevah – injured in the incident – is in critical condition.

A family member who spoke to “Sun” reported Fazeel had a huge gash in his stomach.

Manager of Kulhudhuffushi Hospital – which is treating Fazeel – Ibrahim Waheed reported that Fazeel was undergoing surgery.

Waheed reported that Fazeel was in critical condition, and said he cannot make any additional comment until he hears from the doctors after surgery.
