Dr. Afrasheem’s father passes away

Ali Zafir, 78, father of murdered lawmaker and Islamic scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali has passed away.

“Sun” has been informed that the former island chief or “katheeb” of R. Ungoofaaru, Ali Zafir, passed away at 10:05 am, this Saturday.

He was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital after being admitted to the hospital four days back.

Ali Zafir served as island chief of Ungoofaaru during the 1990’s and his well-liked for his pleasant personality and good sense of humor.

The family reports his body will be buried after the Asr prayer, this Saturday.

Ali Zafir's son and Dr. Afrasheem's brother Abdul Nasir is the President of Ungoofaaru Council. He served as Ungoofaaru MP of People's Majlis after the position was left vacant with Afrasheem's brutal murder, completing the rest of the term.
