National Film Awards: “Loodhifa” tops nominations

Dhivehi film “Loodhifa” leads the 7th National Film Awards nominations – scheduled to be held on December 21.

Nominations for National Film Awards 2016 – organized by National Center for the Arts (NCA) and Public Service Media (PSM) – was announced last Friday night in a ceremony held at the SENECO conference hall in the national radio – Dhivehi Rajjeyge Adu – building.

The movie “Loodhifa” directed by Moomin Fuad topped the nominations with mentions in 19 of the 21 categories.

The 2013 movie “Fathis Handhuvaru Feshun” came second with 16 nominations. The Dark Rain Entertainment movie, based on a story by local author Binmaa Ibrahim Waheed and directed by Ali Shifau (Chippe) made local cinema history as the first Maldivian 3D movie.

The movies “Sazaa” and “Love Story” ties in third place of the nominations list with 14 nominations apiece.

“Sazaa” is based on a screenplay by Mahudhy Ahmed and directed by Hussein Munawwar (Kudafoolhu); and “Love Story” is a movie based on a story by author Binmaa Ibrahim Waheed and directed by Abdul Fathaah - starring Ali Seexan, Rishmy Rameez and Amira Ismail.

The fourth highest nominations went to the movie “Ingili” – based on a screenplay by Mahudhy Ahmed and directed by Ravi Farooq. The movie had competed successfully during the last SAARC Film Festival, and gathered 12 National Film Awards nominations.

The winners are chosen by a panel of five judges; screen writer Ahmed Zareer, director Mohamed Shareef (Baaru Shareef), cameraman Hussain Imthiyaaz, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem, and Ali Manik – expert in music.
