The Cabinet has today established a special Ministerial Committee that will lead in dealing with special emergencies such as the recent Huraa tragedy.
The Committee includes five Ministers of the Government. They are Thalhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaan, the Minister of Defence, Hassan Afeef, the Minister of Home Affairs, Adil Saleem, the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Aslam, the Minister of Housing and Environment, Shifa Mohamed, the Minister of Education and Dr. Aminath Jameel, the Minister of Health and Family. Defence Minister Thalhath will chair the Committee.
The new Ministerial Committee will decide on the actions and measures to be taken immediately after an emergency, and during its aftermath.
Three days ago, four students and the Principal of Hiriya School drowned to death at sea at K. Atoll Huraa, while on an outing to do the work of a Fisheries Science project. In today’s Cabinet Meeting, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Deputy President, ministers discussed on the tragic incident at Huraa, and discussed on how such emergencies would be avoided in the future.
