Warehouse in Mahchangolhi burns to ground in fire

A four-story warehouse in Kafidhoo of Mahchangolhi district of Male’ City has caught on fire.

Information officer for Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Major Adnan Mohamed reported that fire was widespread.

Authorities have been able to control the fire, but the warehouse had burned to the ground.

A firefighter has been injured trying to control the fire.

13:29: General Manager of Brotherhood Private Limited, Azim reports the warehouse contained electronics and cosmetics stored on all four floor.

Azim said it wasn’t clear if anyone had been inside the warehouse when the incident took place.

He said he didn’t know what caused the fire.

The warehouse is insured.

13:28: Flammable materials inside nearby buildings are being taken out, including a barrel of oil.

Police have ordered for electricity to be cut to the area.

13:21: Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Shifan reports the fire has spread to four houses surrounding the five-story warehouse in Ma. Kafidhoo.

13:16: Warehouse belongs to Brotherhood Group.

13:12: The warehouse is made from tin, making it difficult for firefighters to control the fire.

13:11: “Sun” has been informed that the warehouse is used to store cosmetic products.

The fire is spreading at a rapid rate, with damage to nearby houses.

Authorities have warned the people from gathering near the area.
