Narcotics smuggler sentenced to life imprisonment

A man from Hithadhoo, Addu City has been sentenced to life imprisonment for smuggling 99 bullets of diamorphin in his body into Maldives.

The man, Ahmed Waheed, swallowed the 99 bullets of narcotics and smuggled it into Maldives on an Indian Airlines flight.

Waheed had denied the charge of smuggling narcotics into Maldives, but was found guilty by Criminal Court based on evidence and witness testimony.

Court verdict says the narcotics he swallowed weighed 413 grams.

Waheed was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay MVR 100,000 in fines.

Criminal Court ordered that he pay the MVR 100,00 fine within one month.
