President asks Maumoon to re-endorse the government

Since the former President of Maldives and the President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom withdrew his support for President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the President has requested that the former President of Maldives return to the government and re-endorse his support.

Speaking at PPM’s Fifth Anniversary celebration function “Aslu” by the Yameen faction tonight, the President said that the most honorary member of the party is the President of the Party. The President said that his thinking is on the future of the party and for that he needs the instructions of President Maumoon for the progress of the party.

President Yameen said that the internal conflict of PPM began during the Eid al-Adha this year and the Party’s council made a lot of effort of fix those problems but a solution could not be found. The President said that the civil suit was not intended to create more conflict but to resolve the internal issues with discussions.

The President said that most important thing for PPM today is to be united and serve the people. And the goal of the party is to people a party of the people and should be run within certain rules.

Noting that PPM is not a party behind a single individual, President Yameen said that PPM should not be a party to “follow” him either.

At the function today, President Yameen repeatedly asked President Maumoon to rejoin him in uniting the party and supporting the government. And none of the other speakers at the event made any negative comments about the former President.

President Maumoon withdrew his support for the current PPM government saying that corruption has been rooted along with an increase of foreign influence in the country and does not want to be blamed for the actions of the government.

Some members of the PPM Parliamentary Group also withdrew their support for the government following President Maumoon and decided to work as a separate Parliamentary Group. President Yameen called for those members to return as well.
