Zameer: 12,000 people at the event, some left after being unable to enter

Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer has said that over 12,000 people took part in the PPM’s fifth Anniversary function tonight.

Speaking at the function entitled “Aslu” (Real), the Tourism Minister said that over 12,000 were gathered at the Carnival Area to take part in the function and many had to leave since they were unable to get in.

He said that everyone was not allowed in due to space and security reasons.

As the PPM Anniversary function is underway with the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in attendance, every event the President has attended has had tighter security since the explosion onboard the Presidential Launch. And so a security screening has been made compulsory at the events the President is attending.

The entrance to tonight’s event had three security screening machines installed.

A number of people arrived in the capital from the atolls to take part in the function tonight.
