Khaleel: Tomorrow night would be the biggest function in the country so far

MP for the Nilandhoo constituency Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has said that the PPM function “Aslu Jalsaa” (Real Function) being held at the Carnival area tomorrow night is going to be the biggest function to be held in the Maldives so far.

Tomorrow night’s PPM function is being held by the faction of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Talking to the press today, the Secretary General of the PPM Yameen faction, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel said that they have information that some people are trying to create violent confrontation at the event and it is unclear who these people are.

He said that the security measures at the event have been strengthened since President Abdulla Yameen would be taking part as well.

Dr. Khaleel said that PPM would not be responsible for the actions of the security teams to stop any conflict.

Spokesperson of the Yameen faction of PPM and MP for the Kelaa constituency, Ali Arif said that the rumors in the media about government employees being forced to attend the function are false.

He said that no one is forced to attend and the supporters of President Yameen are welcome to take part in the function.

PPM’s Maumoon faction attempted to hold a function to celebrate the party’s anniversary on 28 October at the PPM Head Office but the event was obstructed and stopped by the Police.
