Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has showed the rifle used by the tragic national hero Hussein Adam, who died defending the country in the militant attack of November 3, 1988.
The coup attempt made with the help of mercenaries from People’s Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOT) took the lives of 19 Maldivians.
Hussein Adam, a teenager, had been on guard duty at MNDF headquarters and had kept the mercenaries from entering the headquarters, providing other military officers valuable time to prepare against the surprise attack.
He had tragically died after his ammunition ran out.
The rife he used to defend the MNDF headquarters from falling was showed to the public after the special flag hoisting ceremony held at the martyrs’ monument after dawn prayer this Thursday.
The coup attempt of November 3, 1988 was planned by two Maldivians – Abdulla Luthufee and Ahmed Nasir, with the help of 80 mercenaries.
