Missing Hulhumeedhoo man declared “dead by drowning”

Death of missing man from Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City, whose body was found in the ocean on Friday night has been ruled as a result of drowning by Hulhumeedhoo Health Center.

Body of Abdulla Shareef, 39, from Saimaage in Meedhoo, was found from the water near Ismahelaa at around 6:50 pm, Friday night.

Senior Administrator of Hulhumeedhoo Health Center, Ibrahim Didi reported to “Sun” this Saturday that the doctor who checked Shareef’s body ruled his death as a result of drowning.

“There are no other signs seen from his body. It was concluded that he died from drowning,” said Ibrahim Didi.

“Sun” has been informed that Shareef had set off to Ismahelaa from Meedhoo on Friday; making his way through the water.

An individual from Meedhoo who spoke to “Sun” said that Shareef was a poor swimmer. And that the water between Meedhoo and Ismahelaa was a strong-current area.

He said that Shareef worked on boats from the island. But was said to hold on to a rope when he goes into the water for tasks such as cleaning the outside of the boat.

Police are investigating the death, and have taken samples of his blood.
