Supreme Court, too, has supported the ruling by the Civil Court ordering President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to take over running of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) from its leader, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
The PPM case was appealed at the Supreme Court today, the court ruled that there is no legal objection to overrule the verdict from the Civil Court which also supported by the High Court.
And so the Supreme Court Judges have unanimously that case cannot be permitted for an appeal.
President Yameen was charged with running PPM after the MP for the Naifaru constituency, Ahmed Shiyam and the MP for Hulhudhoo constituency, Mohamed Shaahid filed a civil suit that PPM is not functioning since the PPM Council Meetings are no longer being conducted.
The verdict from the Civil Court on 16 October 2016 said that until the party’s council makes a decision, all governing decisions of PPM would be made by President Abdulla Yameen.
Following the verdict, President Yameen and former President Maumoon has been holding PPM Council Meetings separately, splitting the common members and members of the Parliamentary Group into two factions.
