EC decides against e-voting for Local Council Elections

Elections Commission (EC) has decided against implementing the e-voting system for the upcoming Local Council Elections.

EC member, Ahmed Akram spoke to “Sun” this Tuesday and said that EC decided against implementing the e-voting system for the election due to concerns raised by political parties.

Main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had said earlier that they would not participate in the election if the e-voting system was implemented.

Local Council Elections will be held on January 14, 2017.
