Ahmed Khaleel has been appointed at the Secretary Bilateral at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Appointed to the level of State Minister, Khaleel has been working in different positions of the Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions since 1982.
He has been the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan since 28 October 2009. Before that, he was the Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission at the United Nations.
Khaleel has also worked as the Third Secretary at the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka, the Third, Second and First Secretary at the Permanent UN Mission and as the Deputy Director of International Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.
