President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the Water and Sewage system project at Fuvahmulah City.
The project was inaugurated tonight at a festive ceremony held at Fuvahmulah City. The project is being funded by MVR 155 million from the Kuwait Fund and MVR 142 from the PSIP budget.
The MVR 297 million project is the largest of such project being conducted by the government of President Yameen.
Contracted to Sri Lanka’s Sierra Company, the company has already undertaken five sewage projects in the Maldives.
A 308 meter long outflow pipe along with the building of an appropriate treatment plant is to be part of the project in Fuvahmulah City.
As part of the project, a 38 km long water network would be established in the city along with three water plants capable of producing 500 tons of water each. The project also covers installing water reading meters at the residences and water storage tanks in the City.
In an effort to reduce the price of the two services once they are established, a 110 kW solar power system is to be installed on the island as well.
