Fulu Nashid has passed away at 53

Popular music legend out of Zero Degree Atolls that revolutionized the Maldivian music industry, Ahmed Nashid (Fulu Nashid) has passed away at the age of 53.

A close friend of the family told Sun Media that Nashid passed away being treated at ADK Hospital after his condition got worse in his long battle with cancer.

The original, Maldivian-style songs by Nashid, who entered the music scene at school, is still popular today and has captured a special place in the heart local music. He has been of great service to the Maldivian music industry and truly a legend in the eyes of many.

While his songs and music has endured the test of time, it remained in the top in local and international stage with numerous awards in the music scene.

Nashid performed at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City following his win for the Best Acoustic Blues Act in the 2013 New York International Music Festival. With performances in Australia and America, Nashid has also won the Special President’s Award.

Nashid is survived by two daughters and a son from two marriages.
