Sea cucumber business launched in Kalaidhoo, Dhanbidhoo

Work on cultivating sea cucumbers has been launched in L. Dhanbidhoo and L. Kalaidhoo as part of the Mari-culture Enterprise Development Project.

The projects were launched by Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee who released small sea cucumbers into the cages built on the lagoon.

The sea cucumbers will be cultivated in the cages and then sold when they reach a marketable size.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has also made the decision to open opportunities for 100 parties interested in cultivating sea cucumbers in L. Isdhoo. Those interested will be provided loans to help them start the business.

The Mari-culture Enterprise Development Project is a five-year project run by International Fund for Agricultural Development and Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture of Maldives.
