Political parties advised to respect rights of O’ Level students

Maldives Police Service has advised political parties to respect the rights of the students sitting for their A’ Level and O’ Level exams this month, and carry out their activities in such a manner that it did not disturb them.

A senior police official who spoke to “Sun” this Wednesday said that they had been receiving multiple noise complaints against political parties.

Elections commissioner, Ahmed Akram commented that political parties needed to control their activities so that it does not clash with the rights of the general public.

Akram asked that political parties conduct their activities in such a way that it does not disturb the exam-takers.

He said that Elections Commission had been receiving noise complaints against Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) – who gather nightly at the MDP station located near Artificial Beach.

Secretary-General of MDP, Anas Abdul Sattar commented that their activities were not designed to cause any disturbance to anyone, and that they were merely exercising their rights as a registered political party.
