HDC to lease Hulhumale’ beachfront, regulate unpermitted business

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced its decision to lease the eastern beachfront of Hulhumale’ to businesses.

The beachfront area of Hulhumale’ is currently being used by cafes to set up their tables without any permission from the authorities.

Municipal Director of HDC, Ismail Shan Rasheed spoke to “Sun” and said that the corporation was trying to regulate the beachfront area. And that the regulation would be compiled and announced within the month of October.

HDC hasn’t made any official decision yet on the lease amount and period.

It cited the lack of municipal regulation as the reason behind why the businesses hadn’t been stopped from using the beachfront area without any permission.
