Cannabis trafficker sentence to life imprisonment

V. Felidhoo Magistrate Court has sentenced a 20-year-old man to life imprisonment and a fine of MVR 100,000 after he was found guilty of trafficking cannabis.

The 20-year-old man has been identified by the police as Jameel Ali, Bodukunnaaruge, V. Felidhoo.

State charged him with trafficking after narcotics was found inside a bottle in a bag he was carrying – in a drug bust at around 10:50 pm on June 9, 2015 after V. Felidhoo Police Station was tipped off.

Felidhoo Magistrate Court noted in its verdict that Jameel had confessed to trafficking cannabis – proving him guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

Jameel has been ordered to pay the MVR 100,000 in fine to Felidhoo Magistrate Court within the next six months.
