Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Areef has said that civil peace within Maldives was necessary for the stability of the entire country, and that patriotism of each and every Maldivian citizen was vital in order to maintain civil peace.
CP Areef made the remarks in his address to the nation on occasion of Islamic New Year – 1438.
Areef said that history showed Maldivians had escaped the clutches of foreign powers by using their Islamic faith and heartfelt prayers as weapons; and had fallen to their clutches because of Maldivians who had broken ranks and joined such foreign oppressive powers – or had invited such foreign powers to the country for their own personal agenda.
“It is the duty of us policemen to maintain civil peace within the country. The first major operation for that end had also been made necessary because of unrest which took place after some Maldivians broke ranks resulting in Maldives falling victim to a foreign power.
Unrest created by ‘bumba’ people when they were in Maldives. That was when they had been staying on behalf of the British,” said Areef.
Areef said that the police still remained loyal to their duty to maintain civil peace – which is reminded to them over and over again from their oath, their laws, and their determination.
He also called out for unity among the people of Maldives in order to protect the safety and security of the country, and be aware of negative foreign influences and agendas.
“The stability of Maldives is dependent on the civil peace within the country. Loyalty of each and every individual is vital to maintain this stability. The help of every individual is vital.
Unfaltering determination and pure faith of each and every police officer is vital,” said Areef.
The CP thanked the people of Maldives for their cooperation with the police and asked that they continue doing so in the future.
