Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to run in the upcoming Presidential Election 2018.
The decision was made at a JP Council meeting today at M. Kunoozu with the unanimous vote of the 18 members at the meeting.
Although JP would be involved in the election, the law does not allow the Leader of the party, Qasim Ibrahim.
An amendment made to the Constitution last year states that people above the age of 65 years cannot run in the Presidential Election. Qasim is already 65-years-old and confirms that the JP candidate is not Qasim Ibrahim.
JP Leader, Qasim has previously run in the 2013 Presidential Election. JP filed for misappropriation in the election and the Supreme Court ruled to hold the Election again.
After two losses at the 2013 Election, Qasim supported President Abdulla Yameen in the election.
