Maldivian embassy opened in Berlin

A Maldivian embassy has been opened in Berlin, Germany.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Asim signed the agreement to open a Maldivian embassy in Germany at Hotel Adlon, and personally opened the embassy this Thursday.

In his address during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Asim said that the embassy would further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries, coming days before the 50th anniversary of official diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Asim noted the huge role Germany continued to play in the development of Maldivian tourism industry, noting that it was the country which supplied the most tourists to Maldives from within the European region.

He also spoke about the development of business ties between the two countries within the past couple of years.

Germany is the 14th country for a Maldivian embassy to be established in.
